Electrical Engineer/Field Technician

Hands-On Role That Combines Office Activities and Field Work!

SEAM Group has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer/Field Technician at our Indy location on the south end of Zionsville (northwest Indy). This job is perfect for someone who enjoys both engineering and hands-on work!

When in the Indianapolis office, you will perform electrical engineering responsibilities such as:

  • Inputting electrical data into SKM software

  • Performing short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies

  • Obtaining information from utilities that supply electricity to our clients, and related duties

When working in the field at our client locations, you'll collect electrical data to use in engineering power system studies that will be performed back in the office. This is a rare opportunity to not only use your engineering skills, but also to participate hands-on at clients in collecting data needed to create our reports.

If the thought of sitting behind a desk day after day isn't appealing, you'll be interested to know that this position will travel approximately 50% of the time (around 120 days a year) nationwide. Travel will be by air or rental car depending on the client location, so you will need to be able to withstand the rigors of travel (hauling your luggage, running through airports to make a tight connection, driving for several hours, etc). An acceptable MVR is required and the ability to pass initial and random drug testing is necessary. Authorization to work in the United States is required for consideration.

  • experience working as an electrical engineer with power engineering experience being optimal;

  • SKM software experience and the ability to read one-line diagrams;

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology with coursework in "power engineering and systems studies" the next best thing to experience;

  • the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing;

  • a professional yet friendly demeanor;

  • solid computer skills;

  • strong customer service skills are critical as is a teamwork mindset;

  • the ability to lift rather heavy front covers from electrical units in order to do a visual inspection (up to 50 pounds);

  • good eyesight and the ability to climb ladders, be comfortable in high places, reach above your head and below your knees.

  • We have found that electrical experience gained through work in the military, such as working on the electrical equipment on a nuclear submarine, is very relevant!
